Typical dish in Bratislava

Tasting a typical dish in Bratislava is part of the cultural experience and when you think about Slovak cuisine, the main plates are: potato dumplings with sheep’s-milk cheese (Bryndzové halušky) and cheese filled dumplings (Bryndzové pirohy). The Slovak Pub in the capital of Slovakia is one of the greatest spots to try this delicious meal. Beginning with the well-differentiated environment and the menu with all the strange names.

The hostel Blues, where I stayed, gave me a list of restaurants and typical foods that I should try. One of them was a dumpling made with potato, covered with sheep’s-milk cheese and a bit of bacon on the top. The second one were boiled lumps of potato dough similar in appearance to gnocchi and bryndza (a soft sheep cheese), optionally sprinkled with cooked bits of smoked bacon.

I was there with a group of Brazilians I met in the city and took the opportunity to order a combo, which already included the 2 famous dishes and additionally a cooked cabbage similar to sauerkraut. I had the honor of tasting the dish next to the famous chef, Gui Bomfim. To drink, we ordered a shot of the local drink, the Borovička, which looked like a gin, given its scent of perfume. For those who enjoy gastronomic adventures, Bratislava can be a great place to visit! That’s the tip.
