Egypt was one of the countries I was most anxious to visit, since when I was a kid I collected Egypt Mania and knew everything about Egyptian history. I arrived in the country with Egyptair, by the airport, coming from Jordan. I paid the visa at the entrance of 25 dollars and went to One Season Hostel with a transfer sent by Mostafa.
As the price for tourists is much higher than for locals, and doing things on my own is very difficult in Egypt, I closed a package with Mostafa, a guy that owns a tourism page in Egypt on Facebook . We partnered and if you are visiting Egypt, message him and say it was Franz Explorer’s reference!
The package included transport, lodging and guides in 8 days in Egypt passing through Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan and Bahariya Oasis at a great price. On the first day in Cairo I visited the three pyramids of Giza. A driver picked us up at 8am at the hostel, stopped for breakfast and arrived at 9am in Giza.
The entrance costs 80 EGP, equivalent to 10 euros. As soon as you enter the site you come face to face with a gigantic sphinx. In the background, the magnificent pyramids.
As this is one of the most touristic places in Egypt, the harassment of tourists is quite large. I tried to remedy speaking in Arabic, no thanks (La Shukran) and in some cases complimenting, may peace be with you (Salaam Aleikum). At one point, in a matter of seconds, a young man had put typical clothes on our heads and was already taking pictures with our camera. Soon after we heard the usual request: money, money, money. We did not give money, but the picture was beautiful.
Of the three pyramids, two are open for interior visits, but you need to pay an extra 80 EGP for each. According to the driver who took us, it was not worth it because the interior was empty, so we skipped.
We looked around and found a viewpoint to relax and take some pictures
After this we headed towards the sphinx on the other side and walked into a part that is included in the ticket and you could see the statue in a privileged position. It was my before-penultimate day of travel along with my companion Pedro who visited 21 countries with me during 51 days, so we took several photos together.
We headed back to the car at 1PM.
