Cairo, the capital of Egypt has a population of about 8 million, and its metropolitan area reaches 25 million. The Egyptian Museum is the place where all the precious things of ancient Egypt that were scattered around the temples and pyramids of the country are concentrated. Unfortunately it is not possible to film or take pictures inside. The entrance costs 75 EGP and inside it is possible to pay another 100 EGP to access a mummy room. The museum area is huge with 2 floors and to visit it all calmly takes at least 3 hours.
At night I visited the local market and took some beautiful night shots with the professional camera. I was walking with a boy from Norway and he decided to wash his sport shoe. Paid about 1 euro, a nice bargain considering that the shoe was filthy!
We sat to have a tea than kept exploring the market.
The next day I went to Saqqara, a town 30 kilometers south of Cairo. In this place is the pyramid of Djoser, considered the oldest of Egypt. It has a similar format to Mayan temples, such as the construction of Chichen Itza in Mexico. At this place there was an elderly man offering walks with the camel for 1 dollar. As I saw he really needed, I did a photo shoot with him and his camel.
To access ImHotep & Saqqara, it costs 80 EGP and you can even visit a museum, which even contains a real mummy.
The visit to Saqqara was included in the package that I booked with the guide Mostafa, a nice guy who has super fair prices and can organize all your logistics in Egypt.
He has an Egypt tourism page on Facebook. We partnered and if you are visiting Egypt, call him and say it was Franz Explorer’s reference!
