Iquique is a beautiful coastal city in Chile with dunes in the background and beach in the front. It is indeed a great place to learn how to surf and I did some classes over there with Jonathan in the Ecoriders.
We booked straight on the Cavancha beach, wear some swimsuits provided by him, and started to do some simulations outside the water, considering it was my second time surfing in life.
The pacific waters are pretty cold but the waves were great to learn. After 2 hours of classes I was already exhausted. The package was 15000 chilean pesos (22 USD) and included boat and swimsuit rent.
Its is important to be aware about stones in the ground when surfing close to the shore.
After the surf classes I went to have lunch in one of the restaurants in the harbor. Its common to see pelicans and sea lions hanging around in this area. We went to the restaurant Club Nautico Cavancha and the view is breathtaking. With prices ranging between 7 and 14 USD, the place looks nice but with an affordable menu.
