Night dive in Malawi Lake, more precisely in Nhkata Bay, is famous because of the eagle-fish feeding time.
In Nhkata bay there is a dive center called Aqua Africa, and it was 70 USD for a night dive. I went diving with a spanish girl and 2 israelis.
The dive spot is called playground and is only 5 minutes by boat from the dive center. Considering none of the girls were certified divers we could only reach a maximum depth of 12 meters. For this reason the divemaster, Kristen chose a close spot.
We followed the guide rope until 12 meters depth and started to look for the school of fishes.
The eagle fishes were all over the place looking for food.
We also saw some other colorful fishes and crabs.
I did not felt uncomfortable or affraid of diving at night, different from what people usually tell about night dives.
One of the girls had the air almost in the end so we needed to go back to the surface after 34 minutes underwater. It was a great experience and very special considering was my first night dive and in a lake.
