We arrived in the city of Swakopmund at night after 500km driving in the desert. We booked a night in Sky Desert Backpackers and had dinner in the restaurant Pizzaria and Grill Napolitano. The next day we went to explore and take some pictures of the interesting architecture of the town.
Many germans migrants live there and many streets have german names.
A few buildings also show dates of construction such as 1907. In the harbour you can see a few seagulls and a famous restaurant and bar built in 1905. Not far away you have also a lighthouse.
If you do have time, activities such as renting a quad to drive in the dunes and skydiving are available. One curious thing about this city is that in 1975 my father used to work in uranium mine 100km away in the middle of the desert. Every weekend he was driving a bus to Swakopmund so the miners could drink and have fun with girls. I drove pass by the entry of the mine my father worked (Rossing Uranium), active nowadays.
