Exploring the surroundings of Dubai

I had a 33 hours layover in Dubai flying with Emirates from South Africa to India and I decided to have a look around the city instead of getting bored in the airport.

The first activity I did in the morning was exploring Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world, located in Dubai Mall. I wrote an article just about this experience, here.

After lunch I had Ski classes in Emirates Shopping mall, also one of the biggest worldwide. I detailed the experience and prices in here.

I met a good friend of mine, Karmen, a beautiful stewardess from Emirates that lives in Dubai. She brought me to a few sightseeings including Burj Al Arab, officially rated Five-Star Deluxe, however, it is frequently described as “the world’s only seven-Star hotel”.  We saw it from Umm Suqeim Beach, a free public Bech open 24 hours and very popular with Jumeirah residents and Western expatriates.

We had lunch in a local restaurant called Zaroob. She ordered tomato and beef mini stew with fattoush salad, a levantine bread salad made from toasted or fried pieces of pita bread combined with mixed greens and other vegetables, such as radishes and tomatoes.

I ordered one arabic swarma wrap and we shared also a Kraft, similar to a cheese crepe. After this busy day it was time to head back to the airport, I took the subway all the way to the modern and technologic facilities.

I missed a few activities in Dubai Mall such as: the aquarium, the fountain and the ice rink. For car fans is worth to visit the Ferrari museum in Abu Dhabi and for the adventurous, make a tour in the desert. But I might come back to see that!

I finally headed to Mumbai in India, with the first class airlines Emirates.
