I had a great opportunity to volunteer teaching english to kids with ages between 7 and 12 in Tong Thos foundation in Bangkok. I booked this volunteer work using the worldpackers website, that I strongly recommend for travellers looking for new experiences.
I booked two weeks that was the minimum period accepted by the Organization. In exchange I got free accommodation in the school and food. When I arrived in Bangkok I was welcomed by the director, Mrs Malai Dang, a very nice and generous person. She showed all the school, my room and we planned my volunteer program. At the same day I was invited to have dinner with her family in her house.
The first day teaching was amazing. I had to teach for tree classes of students, one hour each class. It was a muslin school and I could see the traditional activities in the morning.
The kids were really fun and smart. They were always active trying to learn new words.
They were really creative as well.
Every morning when I arrived in the class they were saying: “Good morning teacher! How are you today!?”.
I had lunch at the school and after I had a bit of time to have fun with the kids.
In the second week I was writing in Thai using google translate. Meanwhile the kids were writing in english for me. It was a very rewarding experience.
