Murano is one Island famous for it’s glass arts, just nearby Venice. You can visit glass factories and see the art being made live in front of you. If you take the ferry there are plenty of stops in Murano including Faro, Colonna, Navagero, Museo, Venier, Serenella, Da Muia. I got off in Navagero station because is the closest to the glass factories. According to where you catch the ferry it can take you half an hour to one hour to reach Murano.
In the Navagero station turn right and you will be able to see two glass factories. The owners and managers stay in the front calling the tourists. The visit if free but they ask for tips in case you want to give. Is very hot inside the factory and there were around 3 people working. He brought us to seats like in a small theatre and explained shortly about the process. After that one of the employees started to make a glass horse. The melted yellow glass became purple and suddenly after a few movements we had a gorgeous horse.
In the end he showed the final art and we were conduced to the store where plenty of glass art is exposed for sale. The cheapest piece was 20 EUR and the more detailed ones for 3000 EUR. Its is not allowed to take pictures in the store, but i figured it out only after being approached and receiving a complain.
You can do this visit in a total period of two hours. Is also nice to hang around this island that has a nice architecture and a few souvenirs shops. In the way back we learned a bit about the local culture with one Italian in the boat and had our tickets controlled.
