What to do in Lesotho

The small country of Lesotho is known for two great attractions: The Maletsunyane Abseil (the longest commercially operated single-drop abseil in the world, operated by Semonkong Lodge) and Malealea Lodge (a Pony trek and Mountain Bike Center based in a beautiful and remote area of Western Lesotho).

I chose to spent my time in Malealea Lodge considering the amount of activities offered. The longest Pony trek included 5 hours of horse riding, a visit to bushman painting walls and a swim in a waterfall.

The tour for one person was 425 rands, but if two people were going the price dropped for 320 rands and with three participating, 270 rands each. I was traveling with a German, Lennart and a Korean guy we met in the hostel.

We payed the cheapest price, about 22 USD each. We put the basic equipment and headed to the nature. The begin of the trek goes trough corn plantation and rivers.

After one hour and a half we reached the bushman paintings. We tested an echo cave and it worked! We saw 3 walls with big paintings.

We headed back to the horses and kept our journey towards the waterfall. It was a really hard trek for the horses that climbed rocky mountains for a while.

The water was pretty cold but I couldn’t lose to opportunity to swim in Lesotho and relax.

We finish our 5 hours trek with a small race to the lodge! Was really fun!
