Who have never dreamed on riding a camel in the Sahara desert dunes? I booked a 3 days tour with accommodation and breakfast included for 70 EUR. After two intense days visiting many touristic attracting between Marrakesh and the city of Merzouga in the east side of Morocco we finally arrived in the Sahara Desert. In the van we learned how to protect our face from wind and sand using a scarf.
We checked in for the tour in a hotel and after went to choose our camels.
I got to sit in a huge female camel that was really comfortable to ride.
There were 9 camels in total and I was in the seventh position of the line. They were all stick together with a line and the first camel was guided by a Moroccan
We spent about an hour in the camels until we reached a small village in the middle of the desert. We were welcomed with typical food, moroccan cuzcuz. It was delicious.
I also had a typical Brazilian soft drink (Guarana) with me that I bought in the day before in the market. The locals played some instruments and sang songs. We also climbed a huge dune for half an hour to reach an impressive viewpoint of the desert.
At night we slept in mattresses straight at the sand dealing with the risk of being stung by a scorpion or snake. We opted no to sleep in the tends because was hot that night.
The next day we headed back early to the main hotel but I was unlucky with the camel. They chose a skinny and clumsy camel that could not walk properly. It was uncomfortable but at least the sunrise was great.
One of the camels stopped to go to the toilet.
To go down of the camel he first bend his front legs and then the back ones.
In the end we had the opportunity to take several pictures.
Definitely one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
