There are plenty of options for sailing the nile river from budget to luxurious, but the traditional way is sailing with a Felucca, a traditional wooden sailing boat used in the Red Sea, Mediterranean and the Nile River. I was in the city of Aswan having lunch in the wharf and was approached by a sympathetic Egyptian offering an hour trip for 50 EGP (5 EUR). I negotiated to travel half an hour for 30 EGP.
We went to the boat and he explained the basics, first he placed the orza, a rod that lays in the center of the sailing boat for stabilization. He then opened the sail and drove with the rudder. He was a very nice boy, he showed where he slept sometimes, a small compartment of the boat. He also said that he took a day trip with tourists and his boat was full of flags because he earned from his clients.
He gave me his facebook and asked me to point it out to any tourist coming to Aswan in Egypt. For those who interested his Facebook is Momen Kobany (Jamaica Momen). After that, he let me drive the boat a little.
It was a sensational late afternoon on the Nile with the sun setting. I took some photos of him and went through Bluetooth. After the ride he climbed the mast and closed it manually and I returned to the wharf. Very cool the tour.
