Gibraltar, is a United Kingdom territory and considered the 5th smallest territory/country in the world. This tiny place is located in the south of Spain around 30 minutes from the city of Algeciras and one hour from the city of Tarifa. From Tarifa there are two ways to get there. You have a direct bus that cost 6 EUR and his first departure is by noon. If you want to be earlier in Gibraltar you must take a bus to Algeciras that cost 3 EUR and than another with the same price to Gibraltar. Both buses drop you in the Spanish city called La Linea de la Concepção, which is the border.
From this city you must walk to the border. There is no passport control, you just show your passport but they don’t even check or stamp. I the other side you have a typical english phone cabin to make sure you are not in Spain anymore.
Another way is flying to Gibraltar. The airport is the only one in the world that crosses a main road and has only 4 commercial flights a day. I had the opportunity to see the street being closed for a plane departure.
You have the option to catch a bus to the city center or you can even walk because the city/country is very small. In the city center if you follow the main street you end up straight in the cable car, the main attraction.
To leave you do exactly the same, walking trough the border.
They way back is a bit more complicated. There is one X-Ray and a few people are checked randomly. Since I had a very small bag the guy only asked me if I had tabaco or alcoholic beverage. I confirmed that not and he let me go. To go back to Tarifa in the end of the day you have buses at 4 PM or 8 PM. I got a bus to Algeciras than I grabbed a taxi that cost me 25 euros. Since I had a Blablacar ride to Sevilha by 8 PM I had to do this way. But If you are in a group a taxi can be a good deal.
The view in the way back is amazing.
