The city of Saltzburg has a great importance due to its connection with Mozart, who was born and lived in this place. I did couchsurfing at Wolf’s house, a very good young man who went to one of Europe’s best artists’ training colleges, Mozarteum. I met him when we both were doing couchsurfing in Madrid in the house of a history teacher, Patricia. He gave me all the support and tips about the city and was with me at Hostel Yoho to get a map of the city, which even indicates 3 different routes on foot to know the place.
The city is divided in two parts by the river Salzach. A great way to see the city from above is by visiting the castle or the Museum der Moderne which is located at the Mönchs Berg. In this mountain, located in the most touristy side of the city it is possible to make a pleasant walk through the parks. Another important mountain that is in the side of the city where is the train terminal is the Kapuzinerberg.
In the castle you can climb free of charge, but if you want to go inside you have to pay.
It is a must see to visit the Mirabell Palace and Garden, a garden of four seasons.
One place where you can use free wi-fi is the Mozartplatz.
In its vicinity are the Cathedral and the beautiful churches: St. Peter, the Fransciscana and the Collegiate.
There is a bridge over the river, which is filled with padlocks, representing love between couples. This is very common in Europe and can be seen in several cities.
Important tours include a visit to the place where Mozart was born and the place where Mozart lived, which are now two museums. And do not forget to walk down the main street of the city, the Getreid-Gasse which is also a shopping center.
