If you are coming to Jordan to visit Petra, Amman, the capital will probably be the connection to come in or of out of the country. There are a few interesting places to visit in this historical city and the top things to see in Amman include:
The Roman Theatre
Easily accessible in the soul of the city center the Theatre has a capacity of 6000 people.
The citadel
Sitting in the highest hill of Amman, Jebel al-Qala’a (about 850m above the sea level) this archaeological site of the Roman period is a great view point of the city. Get ready to climb a lot of stairs and be sure to arrive before 4PM in low season and 6PM in high season. It cost only 2 JOD to get inside.
King Abdullah Mosque
Completed in 1989 as a memorial by the late King Hussein to his grandfather, this blue-domed landmark can house up to 7000 worshippers, with a further 3000 in the courtyard. The Islamic Museum inside the mosque houses a small collection of photographs and personal effects of King Abdullah
I stayed at the Jordan Tower Hotel in a shared room, the best rated place by hostelworld and it was pleasant to stay. The rooftop terrace had a great view.
