Typical food in Belgrade

After a first tour of the city, passing through some sights and the park, we decided to eat something typical, in a local restaurant recommended by the reception of our hostel, Tri Šešira (Three Hats in Serbian Language). There is only one restaurant street in Belgrade and it is called Skadarska. When we arrived in the street we saw prices of up to 230 Serbian dinars for one dish, which are equivalent to about 2 euros or 6 reais. Since we had a specific destination, we continued the walk until we found the famous 3 hats.

A much saltier menu with dish prices ranging from 700 to 1500 Serbian dinars, that is from 6 to 12 euros, or 18 to 36 reais, which compared to the others could be expensive, but it was still a good price considering the quality of the Food and atmosphere.

We ordered a glass of a local beer (Jelen Pivo) and the house’s most famous local dish. The waiter’s recommendation was the Skadarlijski opanak dish which is a Serbian meatloaf called pljeskavica stuffed with chicken fillet, cheese, prosciutto, capsicum and kaymak (a cream milk). The side came with chopped onions and chips.

The food was very good and enough to support someone hungry for quite some time. It was a homemade meatloaf with about 400 grams stuffed generously. In addition there was a band playing accordion and violin that made the atmosphere even more pleasant.

Although the waiters were polite and well dressed, we waited a long time to get the bill that stood at 1000 for each, ie 10 euros. In the end, taking away the service, the meal was well worth it and we left satisfied.
