I did a day trip from Bratislava to Vienna, considering the distance is only 1 and a half hour by bus and cost 7 euros each way. When you arrive at the terminal, a good option to get to the center is to walk down Favouriten street on foot for about 10 to 15 minutes and enjoy the architecture and old buildings that remain intact, including St. Michael’s Church.
In the end of the street you get to a bridge that cross over the Danube river and you are going to see St. Charles church and The Opera Hall.
This area is the city center and is easy to get a map in any information center to guide your visit. Nearby you have St. Stephan Cathedral that has a tower which is the highest viewpoint in the skyline of Vienna’s inner city. You can climb the 343 steps of the tight spiral staircase that leads up to the watchman’s lookout 246 feet above street level. Be sure to arrive there before closing time 5:30PM.
A great spot to enjoy the end of the day was the grass in front of the national library full of inhabitants enjoying the sun, musicians and street artists performing. A few carriages and horses were also on sight.
I kept my sightseeing heading to the town hall (Rathaus) and saw on the way the museums and the parliament.
I ended my day by the town hall that had an cinema event happening that day.
